To tune of "Blow the Man Down"
As I was a-walkin' along the old trail,
And, ay-ho, what did I see?
Ahead the delight of my eye I did hail,
And, hay-ho, a great Rowan tree!
I passed it right by, yet I stopped and I stared,
And, hay, ho, what did I see?
Its branches were covered with bright maiden hair,
And, hay, ho, all over the tree!
Its flowers all white, and its berries all red,
And, hay, ho, what did I see?
With green leaves a-coverin' all over its head,
And, hay, ho, all over the tree!
I stood 'neath its branches, beholding the sights,
And, hay, ho, what did I see?
The berries were glistening just like little lights,
And, hay, ho, all over the tree!
I gathered some berries, and picked up some bark,
And, hay, ho, what did I see?
A ranger out walking, patrolling the park,
And, hay, ho, he looked at the tree.
"What is this," he asked, as he looked down at me,
And, hay, ho, what did I say?
"This is a tree that will protect me from thee,"
And, hay, ho, he wandered away.
I put the fresh berries and bark in my bra,
Then, hay, ho, what did I do?
I walked along quickly and back to my car,
And, hay, ho, then I saw two...
Hoodlums a-prowling and looking in cars,
Then, hay, ho, what did I do?
I 'membered the Rowan a-fresh in my bra,
And, hay, ho, I knew what to do.
I walked right up to those two bad teenage hoods,
And, hay, ho, what did I say?
"Git outta here, scum," I minced not a word,
And, lay, lo, they ran right away!
So listen ye lassies and lads to this song,
And, hay, ho, what can we say?
With Rowan with us we cannot go wrong,
So, hay, ho, get some today!
